Here Comes the Sun…Doo Do Do Do

It is coming.

The days grow warmer.

Nights with no sheets.

It is coming.

It’s a balmy 91 degrees at 8:04 pm. Dulcinea is not impressed. In fact, these two pictures pretty much sum up what she’s been doing for the past week. That and scratching fleas. It’s going to be a long summer.

My (other) Other Half

Last week was so awesome. My favorite person came to visit! We had SO much fun seeing lots of sights and goofing around. Highlights included listening to the best pandora playlist in the world called Hip Hop BBQ, dancing like fools, stuffing our faces at every place imaginable, and watching Gay clean out my fridge. 🙂 I forget how awesome it is to have her around until she’s here and then gone 😦

Here’s some pics that I stole from her (which mostly consist of a lot of pics of us)ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Okay, okay!

I’ve been getting death threats from certain family members to update my blog or ELSE…..I argued that I don’t really have a whole heck of a lot to talk about, but that didn’t seem to quell them.

So let’s see…what’s new? Well, my back hurts, for one. It’s hurting right now as I’m lying in bed, nursing my burned fingertip from holding onto a thin candle jar while attempting to light it, and listening to the irritating hum of the ceiling fan. I’m thinking of getting out a heating pad, but it seems a little silly to lay on a heating pad while the fan is on because it’s hot in here. Hmm..

I guess I could tell you about the dance studio I joined, although most of you reading this are probably already privy to that information. I’ve been to three classes so far: BUTI yoga, ballet for beginners, and cheerobics. Yes, I said cheerobics. As in aerobics. And cheerleading. Yes, it’s as goofy as it sounds, and probably more so, owing to the fact that I definitely had pom poms in my hands for the first (and possibly last) time in my life. As silly as I felt, (and as conflicted, because this type of silly pom-pom razzling is what gives cheerleaders a bad name) it was still loads of fun and a great workout. If I can swallow my pom pom pride, I’ll probably do it again.

I have some book suggestions for you. Not all of you. Just the ones who like sci-fi and adventure novels. Dad, I guess that counts you out. 🙂

1. The sparrow. It’s amazing. Read it.

2. I’m chest deep in an amazing book series right now that has been receiving accolades for decades. Written by Dan Simmons- the books are called (in order) Hyperion, The Fall of Hyperion, Endymion (currently reading this) and The Rise of Endymion. Obviously, I can’t speak to the last book yet, but the others are super fantastic, interesting, and immersive.

TWO, read it, TWO pairs of friends got engaged this weekend. The first was my great friend, Kate, for whom Grant and I were lucky enough to be a part of the surprise. I’m too lazy and tired to go into it right now, but it involved us being in disguise and taking photos/jumping out afterwords. Here’s a pic:

Our other friends got engaged on Sunday, and we weren’t there, but it’s just the cutest darned thing.

Well, I just looked over the side of my bed and realized that my heating pad is sitting there, meaning I don’t even have to move to set it up, AND my phone just finished charging, so now I have a free outlet to plug it into. All signs point to green. Back relief, here I come!!

Recent Things

Heeyyy! Here’s a recap of some fun events that have transpired recently.

Firstly, I wanted to show Dad (and Mom) what I bought with their birthday prezzies. I had lots of fun shopping. Thanks!

Next, Grant is a graduate! (Again!) His graduation was last Friday and it was really nice. His class only had 10 people in it, but they were all dressed up in cap and gown it was very touching to see his classmates graduating, even thought I didn’t know any of them. I’m sure it was the first graduation that many of them had ever achieved. They did make the entire room sing the national anthem – karaoke style- which I thought was super duper weird. But other than that- it was great! Grant did a speech and it was fantastic. I have a video of it, but for some reason youtube isn’t letting me upload it at the moment. I’ll post it when I can! ImageImageImage

Next fun thing is that Grant and I travelled to Dallas last weekend for the NCA Allstar Nationals Competition. It was SOO cool! We had a little hiccup with the weather (we had no idea that it was going to go from 75 to 20 degrees and ice-storming the next day), so we were caught a bit unprepared with nothing but flipflops and light jackets to wear. We were really cold. It also took us 8.5 hours to make the 3 hour drive home. Thankfully, the competition made up for it. Here’s a video so you can get an idea of what we were watching!

Otherwise, Grant has started his job at Counter Culture and really likes it so far.

That’s about it from here! Yay!

Spring has sprung here in Austin. The trees are budding and flowering, the weather is warm (except for today when the high was 43) :(, the birds are singing, and hey, it’s only February!! I realized that this year was only the second time in my life that I’d worn shorts on my birthday, the first time being in Costa Rica. My birthday was so awesome this year. Perfect weather, fun, friends, and FOOD!

The above pics were all gifts I got from friends! The succulent from Erica, the puzzle from Kate, the sweets from Will, and the gift card from John!

Other news highlights include Grant getting a job at Counter Culture! woohoo! Counter Culture is a cool vegan restaurant on the east side and we’re all excited for Grant to serve us food 🙂

Also- Grant is graduating from his electricians course on Friday, and he gets to make a speech, as he’s the valedictorian! GO GRANT! I’ll try and tape it so ya’ll can see it 🙂

Also x2: I went on a huge shopping spree at Buffalo Exchange thanks to Dad (and Mom) and I’m very excited about that.

Also x3: uuuhhh….I forgot what I was going to say. Goodbye!

Settling In

Dearest readers (all five of you), my apologies for the lack of posts lately. I guess we’ve all finally settled into our routines here in Austin, and there simply hasn’t been that much of interest to share. Updates include Will finally landing a job, Grant is wrapping up his electricians course in 2 more weeks, John has a girlfriend, and I’ve started studying Spanish again using Duolingo.

Here’s a rabbit hole for you to go down, though: Grant and I have met some awesome people through my job (I work with Sarah and Theresa), and they’re really fun! They make movies and they’ve made some really cool stuff. The collective talent between these four is pretty crazy. If you want to be a creeper and virtually stalk them, as I do, then here’s an all access pass:

We’ve been spending some quality time with these folks lately, and they’ve definitely helped make Austin feel a little more like home for us. It’s always awesome to find people that you connect with so well.

A collection of random photos:

This is what our fridge always looks like when the four of us are at home.

Will made us a mini ping pong table!

Here’s Dulcinea creepin on the neighborhood cat that likes to sleep on our porch at night

ImageFlowers that Erica dropped off for me on Valentine’s Day 🙂

X marks the spot…?

That’s all I got. Have a great week, everyone!
